Summer Playlist | Track 01

Deep breath. You made it to the summer. And while many are reveling in a little bit of schedule flexibility, at my house it seems I'm expected to be the activity coordinator. Or at least that's how it was when our girls were a little younger. I can vividly recall the angst that would build up, just trying to take them to get a little swimming time at the local community pool or at a nearby friend's home. By the time we reached the pool, I was needing some serious alone time. All that it took to gather the supplies, lather down with sunscreen, secure the "I'm too big to wear this" floatie to the preschooler who was 4-going-on-14 wore this momma out! Lazy days of summer, where art thou?

But the summertime speedway isn't solely experienced by the young mommas among us. Church life brings its own increased heat, between Vacation Bible School, camps, float trips, and filling in all the gaps for those beautiful volunteers who are traveling abroad or at the lake every weekend. And, if we aren't careful, everybody is finding some way to recharge...except you.

A cruise for one? Sign me up.

You may have discovered this already, dear ministry wife, but no one will schedule your soul's Sabbath for you. You'll need to carve out some time, even if it's an alarm that rings 15 minutes before the rest of your household, to steal away with the Lord. There's a reason why we are still banging the drum about a daily quiet time, and that's because it's effective for daily replenishment and hard to come by.

The onset of summer is the perfect time to reset your daily rhythm and train those in your household, and those who have you on speed dial, to grant you a resting place. In His presence, in His Word, is the spiritual sustenance you need, but from which are also privileged to partake.

Prayer isn't time God is requiring of us. Prayer is time God is giving to us.

First track of your Summer Lifestyle Playlist: Resting Place.
