Graced Obedience is Better

“And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭15‬:‭22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Have you ever noticed how God provides grace for the hard things He asks you to do? A task or assignment given by God can require much of us but, when we’ve heard from Him, obeying Him becomes invigorating! Perhaps the exhaustion and burnout we often experience in spiritual leadership come from doing good things, great things even, that God never asked us to do.

Perhaps the exhaustion and burnout we often experience in spiritual leadership come from doing good things, great things even, that God never asked us to do.

You’ve heard it quoted often: obedience is better than sacrifice. Why? Because obedience to God’s commands is graced with His partnership, yoke, and divine strength to accomplish them.

Perhaps now would be a good time to reevaluate: what am I currently doing that God did not ask me to do, or that I failed to pray about before I committed to doing it?

Those things could be what are keeping each of us from feeling fulfilled, remaining on mission, and finding time to soak in His presence each day.
