Since Sanctuary's launch in 2015, our primary goal has been to create a safe place--a haven--for ministry wives across the nation and around the world. It is all too common for ministry wives to experience isolation through at least one season of marriage and ministry in their lives. Authentic friendship and connection is often hard to locate.
"I've sat across the table from hundreds, if not thousands, of ministry wives over 20 years of marriage and ministry, and heard their stories. Some have said, 'I can't find anyone who understands what the ministry family goes through or how we do life. I can't really trust the women in our church as the pastor's wife to be a true and loyal friend. And many of the pastor's wives in this area won't even speak to me. There's too much competition.'", says Bridgette Tomlin, Sanctuary founder.
Through our Sanctuary retreats, Let's Connect events, the Facebook online community, and personal connection, Sanctuary is growing in its influence to bridge the gap and forge a greater sense of safety and unity among the women who serve so faithfully in ministry with their husbands.
But we believe there's more...
Throughout the month of February our blog will feature writers who highlight the value of connection within the ministry wives community and challenge us to give authentic relationships one more try. Perhaps you've been hurt by someone who should have been trustworthy. Maybe you're still struggling with unresolved anger, resentment, or unexpected heartbreak. One more disappointment.
Or maybe you are just ready to put yourself out there, knowing that what God has done in your life can be of value to someone who is a few paces behind you.
We want to challenge you, no matter where you're at on this journey, to come alongside. Open up your heart to connection. And realize, you're not alone.
As we approach March 2018, you'll begin to see some new additions to our Sanctuary site as we endeavor to expand some intentional mentoring opportunities. The apostle Paul wrote to his own mentee, Timothy, in 2 Timothy, chapter 2, verse 1-3:
Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Let us take this month of February to ask the Lord to show us ways to receive, hear, teach others, and endure together. There is no need for us to walk alone.
Let's connect. Let's come alongside. Let's redefine Sanctuary.
